WD-READER

WD-Reader is a sub-program of WDS, the Worms Document System. You need to install WDS2009 in order to use WD-Reader. If you want to create digital talking books you need other sub-programs of WDS, see our EDIN site. Click here to open or download the WD-Reader User Guide.

Install WDS2009

Step 1: (Only if you have already installed an earlier version of WDS) remove the old version of WDS2009, using Configuration Panel, Add / Remove Programs ]

Step 2: Download WDS2009.2.04-Setup.exe by clicking the following link :

DOWNLOAD WDS2009 (1.3 MB)

Step 3: Execute WDS2009.2.04-Setup.exe

Windows Vista: The installation generally finishes in about a minute.

Windows XP: The program needs the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. If this framework is not present on your computer it will generally be downloaded and installed automatically. This can take up to 15 minutes to complete. Only if the Framework is not downloaded automatically you should download and install it yourself, using the following link :

DOWNLOAD dotnetfx.exe (22.4 MB)

After successful installation of the WDS2009 program you can start downloading and installing digital talking books, as described below

Install Books

1) Click on a title in the left column of this page to open the book page for that title. Then download the setup file(s) by clicking the download link(s) of the book page. (For most books a single setup file contains the entire book. For a few voluminous books you have to download and install several setup files).

2) Execute the setup file(s), e.g. Alice-Setup.exe or Pinocchio1-Setup.exe, followed by Pinocchio2-Setup.exe.

3) The setup asks for an installation directory. It is a good idea to create only one directory for all your digital talking books, for example “c:talkingdocs“. The Setup programs automatically creates a separate subdirectory for each document,  e.g. “c:talkingdocsAlice” or “c:talkingdocsPinocchio“.

4) Start using these documents with the WDS2009 program. Click the File menu, click Open, then choose the .wdo file from the directory where the document is stored, e.g. “c:talkingdocsAlice“.
